Randall Leblanc is soaring high as a freshman decathlete. SportsHopes received the following message today from Oliver Hanf, Head Coach of Men’s Track & Field at California State University, Chico: “Oh my goodness, Randall is a total blessing! He makes my life better! Not only did he just score the second highest point total by a Chico State true freshman at this last meet but he is such a wonderful human being. He hosted a recruit last weekend and was a tremendous ambassador for our program. Thank you for guiding him our way!!”
Randall persevered through numerous challenges while making his way through middle school and high school, but came out as a high school graduate (Castro Valley) with very good academics and athletics and in a position to be referred to numerous college coaches by SportsHopes. Chico State University was a great fit for Randall with a track & field program big in the decathlon/heptathlon events, a great coach and team who wanted him and a location not too far from home (about three hours). We sent in Randall’s video and stats, his transcript, completed the college application, completed FAFSA and Cal Grant financial aid applications (he was awarded a maximum Cal Grant), completed the campus housing application along with a few other tasks and the dream of attending a four-year college became a reality. GREAT job, Randall, I know your family is so proud of you as we are. Keep up the excellence as a bright future is in the making! Coach Hanf, thank you so much for recruiting local student-athletes from our East Bay Area: Jake Mitchell and Nicole Anthony (Castro Valley High); and Willie Latin and Janae Mayfield (James Logan High). Onward they go!
