Register with FAFSA – Free Application for FEDERAL Student Aid – Starting January 1. FAFSA provides financial aid grant, scholarship and student/parent loan opportunities for collegiate students. You’ll need your parent/guardian’s tax returns from 2012 to start. When 2013 taxes are completed you’ll update FAFSA with that info. FAFSA registration is required if also applying for a Cal Grant.

Cal Grants are for students who are residents of California and who go to California colleges. You are required to register with FAFSA prior to completion of the simple Cal Grant application. Apply for a Cal Grant as soon as possible starting January 1.

CSS / Financial Aid PROFILE is a nonfederal financial aid program that approximately 400 U.S. colleges use. A list of the colleges is on the website. The application is located on the College Board (SAT testing service) website. You’ll need your parent/guardian’s tax returns from 2012 to start. When 2013 taxes are completed you’ll update PROFILE with that info. This application is open now.
