Miss Garvey Buchongo (on right) is a hard-working, academic-focused and soft-spoken advocate for youth. In addition to being a student-athlete at Hercules High School (Class of 2016) she also founded a tiny not-for-profit called “The Freedom to Run” project which donates lightly used track & field clothes and shoes to youth who participate in the sport. Garvey competes as a sprinter and long jumper for her high school and for the Hercules Running Rebels Track & Field Club (a club which her mom, Sudan, shown here on the left, co-founded for youth ages 6-18). Garvey is also a top-notch student with a weighted GPA of over 4.0. She plans to compete in track & field at the college level and will reach out to college coaches soon. In the fall she will also apply to a variety of high-academic colleges. Great effort and heart, Garvey. Proud of you and great job, Mom Sudan!
